Compared with women who left behind a husband, a man who left behind a wife more at risk of mental disorder if the old do not find a replacement for the lost. Mental diseases more commonly found in widowers who continue to remain single than women who choose to be left alone while their husbands.

Researchers at the Sahlgrenska Academy of Gothenburg University monitored 691 people in Sweden widower whose wife died of cancer and found that subjects who found a new partner within four to five years is good enough in the face of his wife's death.

But the widower who is still single after 4-5 years later turned out to have a risk of depression, anxiety, sleep disorders and emotional blunting are much higher. Single old widower who is also more likely to consume sleeping pills and antidepressants.
