Anak Kelahiran Prematur Cenderung Emosional

Preterm birth has allegedly resulted in less good for mental and physical development of children as adults. One of them, children who were born prematurely a few weeks early are likely to have behavioral or emotional disturbance when the pre-school age.

This conclusion is based on research published in the Archives of Disease in Childhood, children born very preterm (less than 32 weeks) are likely to have behavioral and or emotional problems than children who were born normal, but it is not clear what impact.

Researchers based their findings on analysis of data on more than 1,500 children who were assessed behavioral and emotional development at age 4 years. All study participants were part of long-term study to see the growth, development, and general health in children born preterm premature titled The Outcome Project Longitudinal or Lollypop.

A total of less than 1,000 children who were born at the age of 32-35 weeks of gestation in the category is quite premature. while remaining less than 600 people born from the womb of a normal age.

Seven components of behavioral or emotional assessed, namely anxiety, depression, aggression, attention disorders, somatic complaints (disturbance without obvious cause disease), as well as behavioral disorders kecendereungan, whether express or emotional exit (only an issue for yourself).

Children who are sufficiently preterm have higher scores on all tests given by the difference in average total value of more than four points. Tendency to act out the highest in boys, which is one of 10 children have behavioral problems quite premature. The same amount found in women who experience emotional disturbances.

Children who are quite premature almost 2.5 times more likely to internalize the problem behavior is so disturbed, and only less than 70% are more likely to express it out than children of normal birth.

Children who are quite premature also two times more likely to have somatic complaints, namely symptoms of illness for no apparent reason, and almost two times more likely to experience behavioral and emotional problems.

This problem tends to persist in childhood through adolescence and tends to affect academic achievement and friendships at school.

"Our results indicate that children are more likely to experience premature sufficient behavioral and emotional problems before entering school," the researchers said as quoted by ScienceDaily, Tuesday (12/06/2011).
